Girls Engineering And Robotics Studies started this year under the leadership of Shani Letoha ('09), with the elegant and simple idea of creating an environment for girls to learn engineering.
Why "girls only"? We've found that young ladies and young men operate VERY differently when learning, especially when it comes to engineering. Let's just say that the ladies have a better grasp on teamwork, sharing and community, and don't want to build everything just to blow it up or break it.
Shani has led the ladies through VEX and Lego building, and will continue to build their skills throughout the year. For the long term, we hope this program takes on a life of its own to help young ladies develop their skills and confidence in engineering, and take on more significant roles in robotics at North Gwinnett.
