Almost to Kickoff!

posted Nov 21, 2009 12:02 PM by NGHS Robotics

Just a little over a month left until the FRC kickoff 2010. What are the plans for kickoff? Well, the county is going to come together at a LEGO tournament so that big and little kids alike can share in the celebration. It's going to be a blast! Keep checking to see what the final plans are so that everyone can come out and join the fun.

Almost done.

Woohoo! The T-shirt shooter is almost finished. After an all day work day on Saturday, October 24th, the team has made excellent progress. Just a little more work and we'll be ready for some action on the field!

Come and see the new red wall!  (Simple, but cool.)

On the agenda for our Tuesday meeting:
- If you want to officially start and join the new beginners VEX team (vexrobotics.com), it starts now
- T-shirt voting
- Begin to consider officers
- Other initiatives' status
- Fundraising awareness
- maybe more

Great Start to 09-10!

Excellent turnout for our first meetings!  I think we have an excellent jump on C++ programming, a great group for our first VEX Competition Team, and awesome resources like Austin leading Inventor for all levels!

Programmers will continue to meet on Thursdays as a group study, and continue learning C++.  Soon we'll start to evaluate basic robot code to give folks goals to focus on.

VEX will formally start forming a Team on 9/1 (Tuesday), and decide on roles, goals, and begin brainstorming.  Once we have a robot design in mind, we'll learn Autodesk Inventor to create it, then we build it.

Don't forget to sign up for our forums at ngneering.org/forums.  That's our place for all communication. (We also have a North Gwinnett Robotics facebook group for fun!)

Prototype building

This past Saturday (the 10th) we built a prototype of the Helix design and it went quite well.  Pictures can be seen on line (links are on the forum).  It was one of our most effective days ever so good job everyone.  Currently we are testing propellers on the back of the code bot to see how effective they are.

At our last meeting we filled some new robotics positions.  Check out the forum to see what they were.

Getting Going

Our meetings have begun, and it's time to make things more concrete and definite with our current initiatives and future plans.

Meetings are Mondays, and GEARS are welcome to meet during any lunch, with a focus on Wed. and Fridays.

A few people have expressed interest in helping out the Level Creek Team, and Sycamore wants one too for Legos!

FIRST FIRST Announcement

For those interested in the FIRST Robotics competition (http://www.usfirst.org ), the Kick Off date has been announced:  January 3!  It's the Saturday before we return to NGHS, so plan on a good time, eating pizza and thinking about robot stuff all day long!

FIRST Announcement

No, this is not about the FIRST competition, it's merely the first announcement.  We're going to try and get the ball rolling now, and get our newcomers comfortable, and every more prepared, for a great robotics season starting Jan.

We'll be building the email list, and improving on what we did last year, and even reflecting on how to continue to improve.  Thanks for your patience!
